One Man's As Good As Another: A Review from The Stage

Is it possible to write a review from the other side of the fourth wall. The fourth wall may be a term that is foreign to some people so I will explain, it is the imaginary wall between the audience and the play. It is our voyeuristic side coming out where we can come out and see something that we are not supposed to see. It is the same reason that people watch reality tv shows. But it is rare that we can actually see something that is new behind that fourth wall. John Cruncleton's play, "One Ma… Continue

How Are We As Artists Using Mayfest to Our Advantage?

How are you using Mayfest to your advantage? There are a considerable amount of people at Mayfest and it is always a good idea to look at how we are going to use Mayfest as a promotional tool or opportunity to get the word out. I would suggest a couple of things: -Make Some Flyers About Your Event and Hand Them Out -Get some info about your organization and put it on a card. -Make Some T-Shirts that Promote the Event That You Are Doing And Wear Them -Get to Know Some People, and Invite Them To… Continue

"Why I Love Tulsa" Thanks Tulsa Creative Network for Making The Auditions A Success

To the TCN Members and Staff, I was just contemplating the idea of thanking myself for my continued support and realized something about this network. Tulsa Creative Network has never and will continue to never be just about me. Not only am I the creator of this website, but I am an active user of the site as well. That being said, I want to thank each and every member of the Tulsa Creative Network for their support of "Why I Love Tulsa" yesterday afternoon from 2pm-6pm. Because of you, we rec… Continue

Sign Up Your Organization for Volunteer Central!

Now more than ever, community service is being valued. Your volunteers for the organization can receive credit for the work that they do. I am an advisor for Tulsa Community College as well as the founder of Tulsa Creative Network and I am seeing a big influx of students who are needing community service. These students will need hours that can be directly related to your organizations goals. If you are a non-profit organization, please follow this link.… Continue

World Theatre Day Message 2009-Augusto Boal

All human societies are “spectacular*” in their daily life and produce “spectacles” at special moments. They are “spectacular” as a form of social organization and produce “spectacles” like the one you have come to see. Even if one is unaware of it, human relationships are structured in a theatrical way. The use of space, body language, choice of words and voice modulation, the confrontation of ideas and passions, everything that we demonstrate on the stage, we live in our lives. We are theatre!… Continue

Here I Am, Rock You Like A Hurricane

So I have just come back from the TCN Town Hall Meeting that happens every Sunday at the Collective Coffee House at 2pm. And I must say that there are some exciting things happening at TCN this year. One of them being that we are working ourselves ever closer to becoming a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting and supporting Tulsa artists. That being said, I find that these words are misleading in what we try to do and accomplish in the sense that you are doing the work. You are making… Continue

A New Way Of Thinking

One of the tricky parts about running a social network is that it can get very confusing with new features and advances. There are many tools out there that can be integrated into Ning networks, and it gets to the point that something that may be useful to some is not to others. I have recently added two features that make it easier to listen to music and other things as well find out what other music people like. I have also added classifieds and already the seem to be a hit with many people,… Continue

I'm In An L.A. State of Mind

Hello All, I am writing this letter to my dear friends that have been of great comfort and help to me over the past few years, and I want to thank you for your love and your support in what have been good times and bad times. When I originally moved to Tulsa, I was not expecting to stay but a month. The plan was to move in with my mother and then move directly to Los Angeles. Mainly because I had never done it before, and mainly because I was done with grad school and was ready to move on with… Continue

The Great Dane is Finally Great (A Review of Hamlet at ORU)

I have never been to the ORU campus in my 5 years total of living in the Tulsa area to see a theatrical production. ORU theatre has always been a myth to me in reguards to what they do and who they are. And being Agnostic, I would say that I didn't really look forward to going to the ORU campus either. And who honestly wants to see another version of Hamlet? There were plenty of reasons not to go to this production at the Howard Auditorium on Saturday night...all of which failed to keep me from… Continue

Success Isn't A Competition: Boosting Others Helps You In The Long Run(From Zen Habits)

Reposted fromZEN HABITS Success Isn’t a Competition: Boosting Others Helps You in the Long Run by Leo “The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation.” - Bertrand Russell As a blogger who has found some success amongst the seemingly endless sea of blogs, I’ve had to confront some old and rusty ideas I used to have about success and competition. I examined these long-held beliefs early on in my blogging career, and discovered that th… Continue

What I've Been Up Too Lately?

Not Much...Isn't that what everyone seems to say. "What have you been up too?" "Not Much". Not Much is usually getting the conversation going or getting past to the meet. I would say that Not Much is definitely not what I have been up too. A couple of things are really exciting for me right now. First of all, I changed jobs. I was working for Lowrance Electronics under the megaconglomerate Navico industries. And I hated that job, mainly because I couldn't do the fishing thing anymore. I couldn'… Continue

Audience...What Do We Do?

I went to see a show last night, and extremely enjoyed it....and I was able to enjoy it with a group of people who were all seeming to have a good time, to share an experience. It wasn't a great spectacle, or there weren't fireworks, but there was definitely something going on. Something that was really fun. We were basically watching other people have fun and try to tell a story. In the world of Explosives, Summer Blockbusters, and the Phantom of the Opera....large spectacle has taken place ov… Continue

What Does It Take for a Community to Rise Up?

"Every 200 years it is the resonsibility of the people to overthrow their government." ~ Thomas Jefferson

Every day, I drive down I-44 trying to dodge potholes and cracks in the road. While doing this, I notice the trash that is littered along the highway. I notice a lot of people talking about doing stuff, and a lot of people walking around the issues. But what are the real issues that make our blood boil. What are the things that get under our skin?

Usually when I am

A Good Website For Accents

Check this site out. If you are doing a play, it's a great one for accents. It is the International Dialects of English archive. People read the same passage, "Comma gets a cure" which contains all the sounds in the english language in various dialects. Wonderful stuff.
