Biography:
In 1889, Oklahoma had it's first land run and thereafter became not just the "Sooner State", but also, "The Land of Opportunity". People from overcrowded, under nourished, dirty cities all over this country came to Oklahoma. They came to a place where the wind sweeps over the plains, where they each could have their own little parcel of land. A place where they could have the opportunity to do with their lives what they'd always dreamed of doing. We, Oklahoma Artists, have that same opportunity, to do what we've always dreamed of doing, right here in our own backyard! Oklahoma is full of artists of every kind! We have Actors, Thespians, Cinematographers, Musicians, Independent Filmmakers, Stage Moms (yes, they count too!), Writers, Journalists, Photographers, Painters, Models- whew- the list goes on and on. Oklahoma is an artist's dream come true. You need only drive down the road for inspiration. We have Route 66, the beautiful Tulsa Skyline at Sunset. We have parks & mansions. Oklahoma boasts of one of the most diverse climates in this country- we have desserts, plains, mountains, salt lands, dunes, rivers, and lakes. We have so much culture- we're a virtual melting pot of peoples. Art is everywhere, even painted right on the side of buildings for all to see. In Tulsa and the surrounding areas, we have many community theaters and production companies that give actors and crew members the chance to display their many talents. The only problem is this: In our area, the newspaper will not review a community theater project unless it runs for more than one weekend. They also will not review an independent film unless it's in distribution. As for Musicians? Let's face it, you really have to be playing all over the place, in just about every bar in town, to make a blip on their radars. For these reasons, we've decided to form A.R.T. (Art Review of Tulsa). The objective of our group is to give everyone a chance to have their work publicized and reviewed by their peers. Why should it matter if we're reviewed by our peers? If your projects. We know the blood, sweat, tears, and time without any form of payment you've put into what you've made. It's time that we stop letting some man behind a desk, who has never stood in front of a crowd, onstage, under hot lights, sweating his makeup off. The man who has never filmed until two AM, without eating (because you're over budget, of course!). That guy who has no idea what the true meaning of "Hurry up and wait" is. He has no idea the elation of singing to a rapt crowd, of knowing that someone understands the importance of the lyrics you've written. We'll give you the chance to get your voice out there. We'll give you the chance to let everyone know who you are, what you're doing, and why. And the best part? You don't have to be anyone special, other than you of course! Lets be frank- We're ALL a bit special in these parts, 'cause we're OKIES!!! The website will include articles written by local artists about the industry and interviews with casts, crew members, and musicians. It will also include reviews of shows, films, and concerts and will highlight the "goings on" within our artistic community. We invite you to lend us your voice and your ears
